Things Cinema and TV students need ❗❗❗❗❗❗❗❗
As a cinema and TV student at the University of Chile, I have to say that our department has a lot of things to change and develop to make our career and place of study an experience according to what we pay every month. Here, I’m going to try to cover some topics that most of us consider necessary:
- Equipment and infrastructure: It’s well known that audiovisual work requires the use of a lot of technology, from lights to cameras and even some real engineering artifacts. Nevertheless, our faculty barely counts with some of them, so we need more to develop the pertinent skills to manage them professionally. The infrastructure is also something that gives us a lot to desire. The buildings are old, and some of them are crumbling. We need safer and better infrastructure.
- Study program and system: I would say that this is the biggest problem in this career. The study program is a weird mixing of subjects that goes between theorical and practical, without a deep exploration into one of these areas. There are so many classes related to sound that repeat the same over and over without some clear variations that show some level of learning. Most of the projects that are made in the faculty are for us and our teachers; they are not made to compete at festivals. Of course, to reach that level, we need some serious support that the university doesn´t provide.
